3DXDMaker is a custom-built, lightweight 3D sandbox engine designed for rapid architectural prototyping and NPC interaction. It focuses on a "Grid-Snap" philosophy, allowing seamless transitions between a God-mode Build View and First-Person Play Mode.
How the Engine Works
The engine uses a state-based logic system managed by a Global Cursor. Unlike traditional editors, world-building happens in real-time during runtime.
Core Systems
The Cursor Controller: The heart of the engine. It handles raycasting for placement, manages the "Ghost Mesh" preview, and controls object rotation/height before spawning.
Mode Switching (F1): Toggles between a free-floating Camera3D (Build Mode) and "possessing" a player unit (Play Mode).
Dynamic Save/Load: Iterates through the save_me group to record object type, position, and rotation into a JSON file. Too Save Is K And too Load Is L
Key / Action,Function
Left Click,Spawns selected object at cursor position
Middle Click,Deletes the object currently under the cursor
Mouse Wheel,"Cycles through tools (Wall, Floor, Roof, Door, Player, NPC)"
Q / E,Raises or lowers the current Floor Level (altitude)
R,Rotates the ghost mesh 90 degrees
Alt + Q / E,Enables precision offset for fine-tuning placement
F1,Toggle Mode: Switch between Building and Playing
